Thanks guys, Woody. Rosewood T-Type New Member. Joined Feb 10, I dont think either will read over Thanks for your reply! My GN is a daily driver I've never been down the track with it and probably won't, however, that isn't to say I may not entertain a street race occasionaly Anyone else?
I don't think I have a need for a recall feature Come on guys. Joined Oct 31, Rosewood T-Type said:. Sometimes you will start the car and it will max out and just sit there and not move. And other times it will just jump and go back to 0. I have no idea what the hell is wrong and it;s annoying me. Took it for a trip around town with my headlights on HIDs.
If I got on it, the mirror light would sorta dim and the gauge would move. Then I got home and was idling in my driveway and I turned my headlights off and the gauge went down so I turned them on and the gauge went up. GarrettSR5 said:. Yep already have. Same story, new gauge.
All signs point to probe. Metalhead Veteran Member. There is an easy way to test the gauge, toss a dead 9V battery, or even a AA battery, hook up the terminals of the battery to the gauge. The gauge should pin all the way full if you use a AA. Don't hold it there long, but if it moves, the gauge is good. Thermcouples work by producing a slight voltage as they get warmer, if you have a multimeter you can hook it up to the ends of the thermocouple wires, and see if it is producing voltage as it heats up.
I would pull it and take a lighter to it for this test. Since I don't know what the voltage is that it should be producing I had this issue troubleshooting mine , then you'll have to just make sure it goes up a good amount as it warms up. Use your best judgement. You could check resistance of the Thermocouple.
Hook an ohmmeter to it most digital multimeters do this , if it reading 1, at all settings the wire broken either internally or externally, you'll know it is the probe.
You have to do the Resistance test while the thermocouple is disconnected from the gauge. You CAN do the voltage test with it hooked up.
